The Weekend Sexperiment: Take The Anti-Frumpy Challenge

November 14,2014

Ok, confession time, I am a sucker for comfortable clothes. My drawers are filled with yoga pants and soft cotton shirts. Especially as the weather starts to get colder, I find myself reaching for the fuzzy socks more frequently.

Walking down the streets of San Francisco, there seem to be a lot of ladies who share my love of comfort! Stretchy pants and oversized sweaters are practically a uniform for most women. And these are the clothes we’re wearing out in public! We all know we’re much frumpier in the privacy of our own homes.

Raise your hand if you have a tattered pair of sweats that you practically live in. Or shirts filled with holes and stains. A 15-year old college sweatshirt. Granny panties with dead elastic waistbands.

Don’t get me wrong – comfy is great. But comfy also makes it pretty damn hard to feel sexy. When was the last time you felt hot in your sweatpants, UGGs, and hoodies?

Take The Anti-Frumpy Challenge | Vanessa Marin Sex Therapy

When you’re hiding your beautiful body under layers of ugly, tattered clothing, it’s hard to feel desirable or feel desire.

Our sex drives are already fighting such big battles – stress, lack of sleep, communication problems, kids, pets… do we really need to add frumpy clothing to the mix?

This weekend, your Sexperiment is three-fold.

Step One

Get rid of your frumpiest item of clothing. The oldest, baggiest, most stained, least-flattering item in your closet. If you’re in a relationship, let your partner pick the item to throw out!

Step Two

Don’t wear frumpy clothing for the entire weekend. No yoga pants, no sweats, no oversized shirts, no granny panties. If you even have to ask, “is this frumpy or not?”, don’t wear it.

Step Three

Buy one new item of lounging attire that is comfortable but still flattering. Something that hugs your body or shows off your curves. Maybe a cute new tank top, a silky slip, or a pair of lacy underwear.

At the end of the weekend, take some time to reflect on what it was like not being able to hide behind your sweats. Did you feel a different kind of connection to your body? Did you notice any changes to your sex drive? Did you feel less “blah”?
